Blatter promises Bwalya support
Fifa president Sepp Blatter has
congratulated Kalusha Bwalya following his election as Football Association
of Zambia (FAZ) head and assured him of his support in his new role.
In a congratulatory letter obtained by KickOff.com, Blatter has challenged Bwalya to fully use his experience as a player,
coach and administrator and said he was looking forward to discussing
relevant development projects with him and his new executive soon.
In a letter copied to Confederation of African Football president Issa
Hayatou, Blatter stressed that the new FAZ president now had before him a
complex but exciting task to try and turn around the football fortunes of
Zambia.
“Your incredible experience as a player who played all around the world, as
a coach of the national team and as a FAZ vice-president represents an
amazing asset for the achievement of your new mission which is the
fulfillment of the dreams of millions of football lovers in Zambia.”
Blatter added that Kalusha could count on his personal support and that of
the world soccer governing body in an endeavor to fully promote the Zambian
game so that it regains the international recognition it deserves.
“You now have in front of you the complex but exciting task to help the
football in your country to reach new heights and to regain the international
recognition it deserves, and in the task you can rely on my support and on
FIFA assistance.”
During last weekend’s annual general meeting held at Mulungushi
International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Bwalya polled 120 votes, beating
incumbent Teddy Mulonga, who got 66 and KCM Premier Division Lusaka Dynamos
proprietor Hanif Adams who finished a distant third place with a paltry 11
votes.
The 1988 African Footballer of the Year is working under the motto ‘Eyes On
The Ball’.
His new executive is made up of former NSL Dynamos midfielder Emmanuel
Munaile as his deputy while Boniface Mwamelo in charge of the finances as
treasurer.
The committee members are first-timers, Marcha Chilemena, Violet Bwalya and
Keegan Chipango as well as Lenny Nkhuwa and Pivotty Simwanza who are now
serving their second terms at Football House.
Former technical committee chairman in the previous executive Henschel
Chitembeya completes the lineup.
